I’m currently dealing with some very frustrating bureaucracy, broken processes, and no direct control over them.
Given
Any system can only produce as much as its critically limited resource. The Theory of Constraints
And
A system is a collection of processes that are used to manage your project. This includes support processes.
Hence
Each process must contain a bottleneck (critically constrained resource).
So
Start with the process that causes the most disruption or cycle time lag in the project.
And
Identify the bottleneck in this process.
Next
To break the constraint, increase the productivity of the bottleneck (which moves it to another resource in your process while reducing the cycle time for the whole process). If it doesn’t add significant value to your end product, you can either eliminate or reduce this step.
Continuously
You should seek out waste in the same way throughout your project and all support processes. If there is no significant value added to the final product, don’t add process.
Thank you, I feel better now.? But, I would be even more grateful if you shared your stories of insanely stupid processes that have taken on a new life and become an example of “process for the sake of process”.
